Abstract : [Abstract] The study of evaluated load transfer characteristics of two implants splinted and unsplinted mandibular overdenture designs. Comparative load transfer effects of different four stud attachments and harder bar. The purpose of this study was to compare the load transfer characteristics of two implant mandibular overdentures with five different attachments. Methods: A photoelastic model of an edentulous mandible was fabricated with two 3.75×13 mm screw type implants (3i Osseotite, Palm Beach Gardens, FL) in the canine areas. Five dentures were identically fabricated using clear heat cured denture resin. Four attachment designs were incorporated: Locator (Zest Anchors, Escondido, CA), ERA (Sterngold Attachments; Attleboro, MA), Dome magnet (MAGFIT-IP-3i-D, Aichi Steel Corp.; Japan), Ball attachment (RP Nobel biocare; Goteborg, Sweden), and Harder bar designs. Simulated occlusal loads applied were: bilateral equal loads on canine. Results: 1. Interference fringes increase with the size of load. However, under load of about 15lb, it was suggested that the equipment which has a Stress break mechanism worked effective in stress relaxation. 2. When connection fixation of the in plant was carried out, interference fringes showed the attenuation tendency and it was suggested that load can be distributed.
