Abstract : [Abstract] The Gothic-Arch tracing method is the limit exercise tracing way to trace behind the jaw and is objectively excellent to recognize and determine the horizontal jaw positions for the patients. On the other hand, it is important to understand the relationships between apex and tapping point of the Gothic-Arch. Therefore, we used the YM type Gothic-Arch tracing method to trace a Gothic and tapping point of the subjects with the dentulous jaw to investigate relationships and to measure the last azimuth between apex and the tapping point. We chose 20 subjects (12 men and 8 women) who had no malfunctions of the masticatory system. They were chosen from among resident dentists who were willing to participate in this experiment during 2004 and 2006. We used the TM type Gothic-Arch tracing method to trace the Gothic-Arch and tapping point, which show in red and in blue, respectively. On the tracing paper, the rear exercise limit route shows in red and the tapping point shows in blue. Images were input into Photoshop 7.0 with a scanner (Canoscan D2400U). The images were enlarged by a factor of 10 using Illustrator, and we measured the distance between apexes of the Gothic and tapping points. Our result shows that among 20 subjects, 15%(3) matched the apex and tapping point but that 85%(17) did not match. Among 85% of the subjects, the difference range was from a maximum of 5.5mm to a minimum of 0.6mm. The average was 1.63mm.
