Abstract　： 向性とは人の性格の外向性, 内向性を意味する. 歯科医の卵は向性的にどのようなタイプであって, 歯学教育によってそれがどのようなタイプに変えられるかということをしらべるのがこの研究の目的である. このような研究のためには専門課程4年間の学生の向性的動向を捉えるのが理想であるが, 専門課程の1年間における歯学生の向性的動向を調査した結果, 有意の結論が見られたのでこの方面の研究の第一報として報告する次第である. 法医学の権威古畑先生は手相の適中率がもっと高ければ法医学的に役立つのであるが, 実験的データが少ないので, もう少し手相の研究が科学的になされる必要があるという意味のことを述べておられた記憶がある. この意味において本研究では従来の心理テストによる向性の調査と平行して手相による向性の調査をもした. 手相をロールシャツハテストに結びつけようとして, 手の生命線と頭脳線との関係を6つに分類してA-F型にした浅野は「A型を冒険を好まない人, B型を行動的な人, D型を内気で理性的な判断力のある人」と解釈しているが, 私はB型を外向的, D型を内向的, A型を中間型, すなわち特に内向的でもなく, 特に外向的でもない型とみなして, このような手相の持主がワルテッグ描画テストで判定しうる外向型, 内向型と一致するかどうかをしらべただけでなく, 矢田部テストを改変した性格テストをも試みて, その判定基準がいくらかでも客観的になるように努めた. 歯科医は細かい技術を要求されるので非常に内向的であらねばならないが, 同時に患者を相手にする客商売でもあるので外向的な性向も必要である. この両向性が養成される場が歯科大学である.

Abstract　： As to 207 3rd grade students of Kanagawa Dental College, introverts and extroverts were predicted by the following three tests. 1) author's deviced palm reading test, 2) Wartegg Zeichentest, and 3) modified Yatabe personality test. Collective evaluation from many different points in the palm reading, i.e. thick lines, shapes of fingers and swellings of the palm connected to the basis of the fingers including finer lines and marks, could lead the more precise judgement for decision of introversion or extroversion. In the present investigation, however, the data for introversion or exeroversion were obtained only through the correlation of two thick lines which are named brain line and life line. The values obtained from both Wartegg Zeichen test and modified Yatabe persoality test reveal both acquired personality and congenital one, while the values from palm reading test indicate mainly congenital personality. The results of the three tests reveal that the great majority of the 3rd grade students of Kanagawa Dental College are congenitally introverts, and are becoming extroverts or have become extrverts for the past one school year. This fact strongly suggests that the dental education in our college is effetive for cultivating the ideal dentist from the standpoint of psychological tests.
