Abstract : [Abstract] Hyperdivergent type Class II malocclusion is one of the most difficult cases to treat in orthodontics due to the retrognathic mandible and higher frequency of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. In a growing patient, it is especially important to treat early in the patient's development, in order to prevent functional disturbances. A novel approach to treatment of the hyperdivergent Class II malocclusion in mixed dentition was achieved by using a double archwire (DAW) and subsequent edgewise appliances combined with early extraction of lower third molars. Class II malocclusions and retrognathic mandible with clicking joints were improved by control of occlusal planes.
