Abstract : [Abstract] Personal identification is an important subject for learning the identity of a sufferer. General and local characteristics as well as his clothing, ornaments and belongings are usually used for the purpose of identification. Especially, the condition of teeth is recognized as an important datum. Teeth, tooth marks, the Karte and wills have often been utilized but the use of a study model for identifying purpose has rarely been reported. The present case is concerned with an unknown female body which drifted ashore near the city of O in Kanagawa Prefecture and Miss M, aged 28, who was reported missing at the time. The jaw model of the body was examined by experts to ascertain its identity with the study model of Miss M. As a result of the external examination of the two models and investigation of their conformity, their identity was proved.
