Abstract : | [Abstract] An electron microscopic study of the clinically healthy buccal gingiva of canine of dog was carried out in order to investigate the migratory route of leucocyte, a constituent of saliva, from blood vessels beneath the sulcular and junctional epithelium to the gingival sulcus. It was clearly shown that the leucocytes emigrated from endothelial cell junctions of blood vessels immediately beneath sulcular and junctional epithelium, penetrated basement membrane of epithelium into intercellular space, followed by funneling through channels which are constructed by epithelial intercellular spaces, and eventually merged with the surface of sulcular epithelium. Also seen in the widened intercellular spaces is disappearance of desmosomal contacts inasmuch as the presence of leucocyte and the lysosomal granules are released from leucocyte. |
