Abstract : Despite the considerable amount of establishment achieved on the relationship between periodontal disease and oral hygiene condition, knowledge obtained in regard to the relationship between periodontal condition and clinical systemic findings has been extremely vague. Therefore, a pilot study was planned to obtain suggestions on these subjects. Fifty-four male adults, ranging in ages from 30 to 59, participated in the study, and Russell's Periodontal Index (P.I.) was used to characterize their periodontal status. Then, a comprehensive clinical test with systemic conditions, and oral hygiene conditions were performed. Although an attempt was made to relate the periodontal condition to systemic factors, the study failed to reveal any clear-cut relationship. Surveying the multiple correlations between P.I., OHI and those systemic factors which were vaguely obtained in this study, it may be considered that oral hygiene has rather more close correlation to P.I. than systemic factors.
